Jun 21, 2026	Jorule	marginalia	Long story short, there are some worlds where magic run on elements granted by spirits, rather than magic. In one particular world where the spirits were in decline, the elemental magic they granted was confined to stones instead, and when used to make jewelry they'd grant rite-card-like powers to the wielder, and with enough repeated use you could train your body to learn to cast the spells within without the use of the jewelry piece. Lodestones were primarily for special, powerful techniques using weapons and brute forcing your way through things. Cassiterite was like the Breath aspect, does a little bit of everything with some unique tricks as well. Calaverite was for pure magical power, summoning massive pillars of lava, laser beams, giant waves, that sort of thing. Malachite was for defense, like the Scale aspect. Quicksilver was... active support? Slipping behind an enemy to flank for an ally, knocking an enemy off balance so your friend can hit them that much harder, that sort of thing. Anglesite was about what you'd think of as Enchantments. Set up effects and let them run for long lengths of time. Both buffs and debuffs, mostly ones that made defeating your enemies easier. Pyragite was about healing and recovery, with enchantments that made it harder for you and your allies to be defeated instead. (There was also a secret 8th type called Geode... but it didn't look like it was mentioned and they were fairly mysterious.)
