ꙮ Qarina’s personal quarters. They’re close to the Rohsu barracks, and close to the Temple, but they’re not of either of those, precisely. They’re nice, though. There’s some inexpertly-made tapestries - some of the Rohsu she trained with made them for her. They’re Rohsu work… but they were made for her, and that counts.

is flopped down on her bed, staring at the ceiling. Her mind is racing with all the new and strange happenings from yesterday. People out in the middle of the desert that Teacher knew about but didn’t? All the weird questions about time and history? Booooring. At least a few of them looked like they liked fighting. And what was the deal with Teacher and the one guy just absolutely refusing to break eye contact and making it reallll awkward? And…maybe a new friend? Dyu was out teaching ….Salme (she checks the almanac for her name again) and the cute furry little guy how to heal. Which is well and good and all, but not nearly interesting enough for Qarina to tag along for. Also this book that my brother somehow got me. Maybe worth another look.
: “Hey…thanks. I know I kinda lost it after reading some of this with you…but I really appreciate it. I don’t really know what to make of it all yet. Do you think I should show Teacher? Or is this an us-thing, you think?”
: “Yeah, a little. Chaya’s in here too, but there’s no words about her. It says I have smol anime terror energy. I like at least two of those words.”
: “Also, whoever wrote this…they call the God, ‘The Forgotten God,’ which seems weird. I don’t think anyone here could forget about Him if they wanted to.”
: “I mean. I guess I hadn’t really thought about it? But you said they were like me. And that Chaya was like me. So…I mean, I could definitely bring them out there. I guess we’ll see what they decide they’re doing here.”
: “Listen, there are so many Zvahr books and not ONE of them has been good at fighting things! … But I’m glad you remember. Thanks.”
gets a big grin, “Listen, if they wanna come out and fight Elementals in the desert with us, I won’t say no. They look like they’d give even the Rohsu a run for their money.”
: “Yeah, I suppose they’ll need to check out the Red Column if they’re gonna come with us out there. Speaking of Rohsu. There’s one on ‘The Beast,’ apparently. Wonder how he got out there.”
: “Upswell of gnosis. Sounds kinda like what we went to investigate when we found these six.”
: “Huh. It looks like this is the only place these guys aren’t from.”
: “Ohhh. Yeah that makes total sense. Don’t worry. I won’t tell him. … Do you remember anything about Rohsu Xilai? Think it’s worth looking into?”
: “What’s Huh, yeah?”
: “How does that even work? How can you be somewhere, but not actually be there?”
: “Listen, I don’t really want to ask Teacher that. But I do want to find out.”
: “I can’t tell if that was a joke or not. Wait did you say in private?”
: “OH DID THEY?”
breaks out into a fit of giggles
: “Have any other Yazhn ever just appeared but not actually appeared? Or is this like, top-level Yazhn stuff?”
: “Oh. Do you think he outranks Teacher? That shouldn’t be possible, right?”
: “Yeah, you’re probably right. I just wondered. Since he’s from such a greener place. I don’t get most Yazhn things either. Thank God we have Dyu.”
: “Yeah. He is. You think they knew how good of a teacher he’d be when they woke him up?”
: “I can’t believe I’m about to suggest this. You and Dyu are a bad influence on me. There’s a page in here about a guy who was on three different worlds. I wonder if the Zvahr have any stories about him.”
: “Oh you’re right. She’d probably like that way more than gulab jamun. I should get ready and see if I can find her.” Qarina pops off the bed, looks at her hammer, and leaves it behind as she speeds out the door. “Come on! Since you’re such a good influence on me.” You can hear her eyes rolling as she darts off.
ꙮ There is the faint, but perceptible, sense of pleased smugness in the air. The door Qarina left open shuts behind her, politely.
