When Who Kind Summary
May 24, 2026 Salme marginalia I think it is better that the Mask exists than it would be if it did not. I am grateful Zosimos carved it. I also feel ... something about the fact that he didn't deign to wear his own creation.
May 23, 2026 Wolf marginalia Understandable. I would like to have words with the creator, myself. Alas that I shall not be able to.
May 23, 2026 Wolf marginalia Perhaps. I think it is sufficient, however, to say that "there is knowledge of the world unsundered left for those who have eyes to see it." That, we have much proof of.
May 23, 2026 Jorule marginalia More like a thought, or an idea, not yet manifested...? a sleeping soul, which hasn't caught the Spark of life yet.
May 23, 2026 The Awoken marginalia ~~is a sleeping grasshopper any less of a grasshopper than an awakened grasshopper?~~
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia It just seems typical that someone would carve the Mask but make no attempt to bear the weight of it. That, however, could be my own frustration with concept of the Sword-Saint more generally.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Yes. Though the reset is built in. Crops are no good without being able to re-seed them. I say that with no small amount of ... some negative emotion.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Once you're done (rotating) that let me know? Also thank you for the explanation. It's helpful. ~~Does this mean there was a time where you were not fully yourself?~~
May 23, 2026 Jorule marginalia yes asterisk but we'd still need to go there and give a device to someone (probably tsem, maybe badri if you want) before they'll be connected.
May 23, 2026 Jorule marginalia Hmm... Good Question? It's both spontaneous but also... deliberate? Maybe it is the whims of the Goddess, I'd never actually thought too hard about it before. Though I will note that the way it was used in Oberon was a bit different from how it's being used here(?). More meta awareness, that you're important and now a key player in the world's narrative, rather than simply being more, uh, human? Unless it IS being used the same way, which would be... HMM... gotta think on this one a bit.
May 23, 2026 Wolf marginalia No apologies needed. Though I would question the "of course" in that statement. Why would the creator not be the first to test its capacities?
May 23, 2026 Wolf marginalia Just not by design as I had assumed. "Designed to reset" is a distinctly different thing from "Designed to be repeatedly eaten."
May 23, 2026 Wolf marginalia Noted, and likely wise. Though...when you put it that way, I somehow find myself not much less disconcerted...
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Apologies, Wolf. I don't mean to be snippy at you, I just. Of course the man who carved the Mask wouldn't have worn it.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Yes.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia I know Caion and Jorule and Aurelius are working on ... something, but I don't know if it'll enable us to speak to those back on Almachadta. I am sorry, though, Wolf. This must be a frustrating thing to not have an answer to. I do think we might *try* to look in the Mask together? It's easier to dive with another, and the Mask does carry memories of the yeresh.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia I would caution against reading too much into this Zosimos and how much he was representative of the people of the unsundered world? Though I understand your feeling disconcerted. I think, for the moment, that all we know is that you can access the old magic in a way few have been able to do since the world was whole?
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Is the ability to Awaken someone (something?) an ability granted to your deities? Your sages? Something else?
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia I thought it knew that *something* would happen, just not what; just as Zosimos knew *something* would happen, though not what. Which, I think, further supports your hypothesis that the destruction of the planes comes not from an accident or an instability but through some kind of design.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia Whelp when you're right I'll be appropriately impressed.
May 23, 2026 Salme marginalia That's a good thought. Also possibly Solei or Synthesis, if we're able to speak with either of them again.
May 22, 2026 Aurelius marginalia heh
May 22, 2026 Jorule marginalia yeah, of course.
May 22, 2026 Jorule marginalia Hmm how to explain... it's *very, incredibly* specific wording from Old Ritual Language from the world I was, myself, Awoken on. It seemed funny that I could make a connection like that, but now I'm wondering if there really is something to it...
May 22, 2026 Jorule marginalia Born brightly under the Beating Heart... hmm... well, you're definitely Special with a capital S.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Indeed. The connection is speculative, but there seems to be *some* connection there. And, I would posit, some connection between the loss/hiding of the Sun and the sundering of the worlds. Heh. Sun-dering.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Or...simply large, coherent quantities of that particular type of gnosis. It could be as simple as being eaten for energy, much like one might eat a particular fruit for its nutritive qualities. The more horrifying question is the second, to me--anything capable of devouring *worlds* might be beyond our comprehension.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia I see. Then I suppose we must assume that Zosimos never wore his own creation. Which...would make a certain sort of sense. He was clearly obscuring some degree of his own knowledge from Bahamut.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Agreed, though one may survive a thing a-purpose without being *responsible* for it.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia It might be fruitful to ask Archie or Silver-Throat if there is a Zosimos in Samudra's history...
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia I would now very much like to ask another *yeresh,* but I do not think we shall get an opportunity for quite a while. I do not believe my own mentor ever mentioned that, but...at the same time, I do not trust my own memory anymore. The Iros are a clear equivalent, to me. We fill similar roles in our worlds and communities--and seem to have similar powers.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Would someone care to explain the significance? Because I see a...pun, nothing more.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia For myself, I find it...disconcerting?...that my ability with the Song may simply have been *normal* in the unsundered world. And I wonder what it means that I have that ability innately.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Concurred. I will be very interested to learn what those from the Beast know of him.
May 22, 2026 Wolf marginalia Everything it said indicated that both the Canker-Gall and the ending of the world in flame were surprises to it, to put it mildly. Nothing suggests that *it* expected what happened, though it seemed to think that *Zosimos* might have.
May 22, 2026 Jorule marginalia yeah, need all the help you can get
May 22, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Yup that's the wild claim I'm betting on, given how not-at-all-recorded Beast history is, and SQ does feel vaguely eternal.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Zosimos would have died on Almachadta of old age over two million years ago and also had time to have been the rule of the Beast then. Does that add up to you? If it does that's fine, but the timespans seem mismatched?
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Then do you think that most things on our planes don't sing, Awa?
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Oh, well, if Jorule and Sininen are *agreeing* on something then it's likely significant.
May 22, 2026 Aurelius marginalia nope. betting on literal same person tho, just capable of travel between planes (maybe one way trips tho)
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia I am not sure if it relates to the True Sun or not. When I tried to look, there was an implication that the True Sun may have had some fondness for the Empty Space, or what was once *in* the Empty Space, but it was not clear. Awoken may know more---or may be able to discover more. He also very much may not.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Yes, though I think. If Almachadta is about hunger and satisfaction, *what* is being farmed from Samudra? Stomach (Almachadta), Brain (Samudra), Heart? (Beast)? Something else? And what would be large enough to be doing such a thing?
May 22, 2026 The Awoken marginalia hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm what if... you aren't misunderstanding it what if that is precisely what it means i think that puts the following lines in much more understood context
May 22, 2026 The Awoken marginalia this is an astounding catch, in the right context
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Yes, though not by Bahamut. There is no greater depth within the Mask that I could sense, despite all my attempts.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Do you have any idea how *long* the Scorpion Queen has ruled the Beast? And do we think ... each plane might have had their own Zosimos? Since we're talking about sundered planes and also maybe sundered people?
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia Do other yeresh carry such memories? The songs, certainly, but the memories? The dreams? And is this something like what the Iros of Samudra do in their way?
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia This is something I don't yet have an answer to. I think the answer may lie in the second Sword-Saint's memories if I can recover them, but I haven't yet tried.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia I don't think we can know with the information we have available to us, but Bahamut said Zosimos was not sure *what* it would have to contend with at the end of all things. I am not sure how much I trust Bahamut's Zosimos. That Bahamut loved him is clear, and that he had good intentions is also clear, but if those intentions were to cover up guilt or greater harm I remain uncertain.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia I'm not sure if that or if it's that Bahamut thought it would persist through the destruction of the cycles? I don't think it ever planned to die, though I'm not certain why it thought it was strong enough to persist.
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia I think I read "most people did not remember how to do *that*" with "that" being "sing," but I may have misunderstood "that" as the ability to sing trees and beasts and rocks awake?
May 22, 2026 Salme marginalia I wasn't particularly quibbling over the terminology, so much as the idea of ... well, I'll leave a comment concerning my point of confusion.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia We have...reinvented an ability of Eld?
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia Speculation: the Empty Space is related to--or the result of--the Sundering of the Worlds. We also know it relates to the True Sun, yes?
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia They all seem to die at the *same time*...
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia This is, perhaps, the most disturbing revelation we have received so far. The idea that the worlds are not *failing* but *being eaten*...only to be *replanted*...I do not have words.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia This also implies that those from the unsundered world were not immortal--though likely much longer-lived than us.
May 21, 2026 Jorule marginalia abso-fucking-lutely, you probably don't survive that by chance.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia ...Salme, was this answered?
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia This seems to imply that those of the unsundered world were in some way...what, more? Greater? Than those of us from the sundered worlds.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia I fear we must consider the possibility that Zosimos *was* in some way responsible, or involved in, the Sundering of the world.
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Supposedly, the former King of the Beast, before SQ replaced him. There's a lot of different versions of the how/why tho. Horrible, shitty ruler who SQ saved us from? Beloved ruler who's time simply ran out before handing over the torch? No one my age knows, at least. Honestly odd there's no records from that time left behind now that I think about it.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia It seems like there is a deeper meaning to the term that I was not able to perceive. "Carrying the fire" appears to be far more than kindling simple flame.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia I would welcome what you *do* know, given that they appear to have been the first *yeresh.*
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia I *think* this was the implication as well, yes.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia Its name and tale shall be sung. I shall ensure it.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia I would guess, from my conversation with Bahamut, that it is the knowledge and memory of the World Unsundered--things like the songs and languages from the distant past, the memory of the sea, and such.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia I would concur this. Bahamut at one point mentions remembering being alive, but not "awake," yes?
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia Would this make Zosimos the ultimate creator of the Spoken Wood? And the Lightdrinkers? If so...how did they continue after the first Burning?
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia This raises fascinating and disturbing questions, given the (later) revelation of Zosimos likely being from the un...split? No. Divided? Hm. Unsundered. The unsundered world, prior to ours. Did he lie to Bahamut, that he would not be the only Saint?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Stands to reason, the Architect did not seem to think they were really working out, either.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia This would seem to suggest that the cycles are not an intended function of the worlds--at least not to Bahamut's knowledge.
May 21, 2026 Wolf marginalia You have met us, yes?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Sapient? whichever one implies humanoid-level thought processing and understanding. A bear's not a person in the same way a metahuman or lightdrinker is.
May 21, 2026 Jorule marginalia It's *sufficient*, certainly, but also messy and destructive.
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia I'll be interested to see if there's something like shrine in the Septentrione in the north of Samudra?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Right, it was wordplaying at you. Hm. Honestly, good question? Hard to tell, but. I know if I were possessed of ancient dictionaries and was making a dumb pun with a dual sanctuary/grove meaning, the person on almachadta with a fallout shelter seems like a good target for it, at least. Could be more stuff like that on other planes? Or maybe it *did* mean the Sanctuary...?
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia Yes, that makes sense. It having to do with a place makes the most sense. I do wonder ... the Duelist's Mask referred to me as "Salme of the Alsos," and "Alsos" is also a kind of "sanctuary." Maybe ... hm. There are other sanctuaries? And that's why the song appears multiple places?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia also I don't know a lot about them and Unua might know better.
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia That is one possible option, yes. Personally, I feel like the song title lends itself more towards being a place ie "Sanctuary" (a place the Architect... built? But did he built it an not take it over from someone else...? hm) rather than a collective name for a group of weirdos from different planes that didn't know each other. But. That's just my impression, at least, and I could be wrong.
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia Is there a Zosimos on the Beast? I'm guessing this is a thing you'd want to explain in person? Light, why does everyone seem to wind up on the Beast? It's like the dumping ground of people.
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia Okay, not incidental but. Playing for a specific reason that *doesn't* have to do with the Architect. Synthesis said the song belongs to all of us, right?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Yes, though I have to wonder if it's the same one. Though. Hard to imagine multiple people on multiple worlds having a name so..... *that*.
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Every single song we've heard has played for a very specific reason with a very specific context surrounding it. No chance it was incidental.
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia Do you think it necessarily has anything to do with the Architect, or if maybe we just heard it playing incidentally? I really don't think the Song belongs to him.
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia Uh. Do *you* know about Zosimos?
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia But that does seem like the implication is then that there are people who are *not* sentient?
May 21, 2026 Salme marginalia A ... portal? Is my hole in the ground not sufficient?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia ...Interesting. I wonder if the Architect stole or inherited it...?
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia Why in the hell does the first Sword Saint of Almachadta know about Zosimos???
May 21, 2026 Jorule marginalia lol, lmao, On This Day, Bahamut Awoke, And Has Awoken Since Then
May 21, 2026 Aurelius marginalia In this context it seems to pretty clearly be sentience.
May 21, 2026 Jorule marginalia consider using a portal in the future
