It’s rather hard to write on one of these things while you’re walking, and I can’t promise I’ll be able to check this more than intermittently while I go about my business, but I’m here, and this is fucking amazing.
Anything you all need while I’m out and about? I imagine the Inn’s probably got you covered, but I had to ask.
Oh, maybe some Lucre? I don’t think Lucja had any on them, and I’ve only got a few.
Oh, yeah, I’ve got you covered.
Deliver or direct Aurelius to several dozen chicken wings
and garlic bread
maybe some carrots
Oh, hello, Jorule!
That all shouldn’t be a problem. If you want the really good garlic bread you’ll want to wait until tomorrow when we’re back in Queenstown, but I’m sure the little foxes can rustle something up here in Rifton.
cool, awesome, thanks. and Hello!
… Oh, that’s what that was about.
Okay. Thanks, I guess.
Right one other thing, can you get us in touch with a gunsmith? One of the ones that works on handheld models, not a cannoner.
I’ll get you in touch with the best damned small-work gunsmith in Queenstown. What have you got in mind?
Probably something revolver-y; less prone to jamming, still easy to load. Accuracy’s probably a bigger concern than fire power.
Perfect, that’s precisely Arik’s wheelhouse. (If you want a cannon you can carry around in your hands, we also know someone, but I think only the Queen can really pull that off, honestly.)
Yeah, I’m not looking to dislocate my shoulder trying that again any time soon. Actually I wonder if Lucja could now…
If it’s not too much trouble, could you get me something Beast-appropriate that I can walk around in without drawing too much attention? Sometimes I prefer to not make it too obvious I’m not from around here, which my appearance doesn’t always make easy.
That’s no trouble at all! Honestly most people here will probably look at you and see ‘small adorable aspected metahuman’ so it’s just a matter of getting you the right threads. (And there is, of course, the Bazaar in Queenstown. My stomping grounds, where you can find pretty much anything you could possibly want as long as it exists somewhere here and can fit on a train.)

Request: Bazaar tour when we get there?
Oh, that’s definitely going to happen, yes.

YOU HAVE MY ATTENTION, FRIEND-SARANZAYA
I vividly recall trying to convince you to fire the Last Argument once and you saying you thought I was trying to trick you into provoking another duel with the Queen and scampering off to the hills after a feral gorgimera. I think your new friends are a good influence on you, Luce!
Luĉja, The Clockwork Knight

That’s not concerning at all.

I agree. It is not concerning at all.

I was going to say I was mostly curious if the tenebrous orb would maintain structural integrity after being fired out of a canon, but then I realized it’s a manifestation of Sininen’s ambition so. Of course it would remain intact.
At least we’re not talking about launching Awa himself from a canon?
Have I ever told you about cannon travel before?
Salme
Salme, The Sword-Saint
Well you’re going to now.
it was a thing in titania. pay a lil weird guy some money, and they’d shove you and your friends into a large cannon and then fire it in the direction you wanted to go.
Salme
Salme, The Sword-Saint
Did that work? Did you stay together? Did it hurt?
yes. yes. … not as much as you’d think?
Salme
Salme, The Sword-Saint
Huh. Well. I’d say maybe you could introduce a new method of travel to the Beast but considering the big fuckoff wall around Rifton, I’m guessing it’d have to be pretty accurate or else you’d end up fiendmeat?
probably wouldn’t recommend
I’m suddenly and deeply aware of the fact that, among all of us, I’m closest to being cannonball-sized. Please don’t get any ideas.
Hey Zaya, can I offload like… a shit ton of stuff on your Clan’s retainers?
Absolutely, we’ll be able to sort through it.

Can’t believe you’re giving up on that giant crate of tiny fucking crystals, Aury.
Using the magic of modern economics we are transforming them into LUCRE, which can be used to purchase additional tiny crystals at a later date, should they be needed once more.

Hey by the way, is lucre a fiat currency or does the Beast use a gold standard?
What sort of uncivilized hillbillies are using a gold standard, not very modern at all.
Salme

I couldn’t tell you. Almachadta is a trade and barter economy. I generally buy things with stories.
is a fiat currency when i point to a coin and go ‘bitch thats money’ and everyone goes ‘yes maam’ because if so then lucre is a fiat currency yes bam slam question answered problem solved
I see that things work rather differently over there. What a fascinating mechanism of value!
That is how a fiat currency works, yes. Government says “this is money and its value” and everyone goes “yeah sure, makes sense”
On Samudra there are approximately five people at any given time, each of whom understands a barely-overlapping fourth of how Kushtaka trade-currency works on any given month, and at least two of them refuse to talk to each other without an intermediary present.
I’m one of them.
It’s very tiring.
I think we should give fiat currency a try, it sounds pleasant and diverting.
ok you just gotta point at something and REALLY sell it when you say ‘bitch thats money’ its real easy tho once youve done that

Being 7 feet tall and having four arms might help with the “bitch that’s money” thing.
Caion have you considered being 7 feet tall and having four arms?
Luĉja, The Clockwork Knight

Being seven feet tall is rarely a form of currency that I have used.
